Stick the interface pad to the sander, then stick whatever sanding screen you want on the interface pad. It turns the screen into a pad. But, it's not as flexible as the pads. For scuff sanding before painting I use 220 grit sanding screens for flat surfaces. For curves I use the medium plus 1/2″ pads. Hope that helps!
