Looks like you have a second design-feb. 28th, 1968, M20 or M21. Definitely not a rock crusher(no straight cut gears).

The first time I heard the term "rock crusher" was in reference to the transmission in the 1967 L88 Corvette. Due to the low gear angle there is a fair amount of gear noise, really like a medium / heavy duty truck transmission. True enough the M22 did trickle out the door in 1965-67 and was buried in the option lists.

Simplified, I'll use 3,500 RPM for the baseline. 3500 x 3.08 / 4.10 = 2629 RPM. Using an M22Z with a 3.08:1 is like having an OD with a 4.10:1 AND you still have the takeoff feel of an M22 and a 4.10:1 combination. The M22Z and the 3.08:1 combination is not the answer for everyone but, it is another option. See more.

Yes,avoid the penn syncromesh man trans oil,its like water/much thinner visc then 80-90 intended for a munice and it designed for todays man trans & not 40 yr old muncies.
