Re: welding a pontoon. i have used alumilloy to repair props, useing both acytalene/oxy and mapp gas. mapp gas easier to control temp but parts of the prop blade gets over 1/4" thick oxy worked better. but make sure your metal is clean. and i would use a small aluminum patch over holes.

As for sealing a leak in an aluminum container, I don't think you'll have any problems. If properly applied, it should withstand 10 psi easily. This stuff sets up pretty hard and if the base is properly cleaned, heated, and the rod is used as per the instructions, you get a strong bond. This is just my experience though.

They are Zinc based rods that melt at 700* instead of 1200 for Al. I got some from True Value, marketed as Oxy-Acetylene Aluminum Welding rods. I'd hoped they'd be better than the Alumiweld and Duraweld stuff everyone hates. They're not. They don't stick to anything. They melt, ball up into spheres, and roll off whatever you were trying to repair.
